Pre-K Info
Philosophy
In our preschool, we believe that hands are key to learning, so we create a classroom where children can explore and grow. Kids choose from a range of thoughtfully prepared materials in areas like Math & Science, Language & Alphabetic Principles, Sensory & Motor Skills, Arts & Crafts, and Practical Life Skills.
Program Detail
PreKindergarten or PreK students will be aged 4 or 5 and in their last year before heading off to Kindergarten. Focus in this classroom on Tuesday/Thursday mornings and afternoons will follow the children’s interests. More materials will be added on these days to further students’ learning in math, language and science. This is not a worksheets and early readers classroom. Extending children’s learning happens organically through conversation and observation of student work. Having a cohort of peers who have a similar knowledge base encourages children to try new things and extend their comfort zone in a safe space.
Enrollment
Children ages 4-5 can attend as few as one day or as many as five days a week. For a full-day experience, we offer extended sessions on Tuesday and Thursday, from 9:15 am to 2:15 pm, with 10 of the 16 spots reserved for full-day students. Enrollment is limited to 16 children per session, and children must be 4 years old by August 1st and potty-trained to join our Preschool classes.

Our program runs for 32 weeks during the school year from September to May, with breaks for Fall, Winter, and Spring holidays, aligning with the Delaware City Schools calendar. We do not offer wraparound or summer care. Because DCP does not have rolling enrollment, we do not accept new registrations after early October to keep our classes consistent and cohesive. DCP does not have a provider agreement with Publicly Funded Child Care (PFCC).
